The battle between Alabama A&M and Southern didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all as Southern was handed a 82-61 defeat on Saturday at Elmore Gymnasium.
Messiah Thompson had 20 points for Alabama A&M and Dailin Smith chipped in with 15 points. Garrett Hicks had 5 assists for them, while Eric Lee was the team's top rebounder, grabbing 5 boards.
Southern got 16 points from Bryson Etienne in a losing cause and another 10 points from Brion Whitley. P.J. Byrd contributed 4 assists for them, while P.J. Byrd had 4 rebounds.
Alabama A&M was winning at the break before taking care of business in the second half.
Alabama A&M won the battle of the boards, outrebounding their counterparts 25-18.
