California grabbed a 71-67 win over UC San Diego on Wednesday, behind a 19-point effort from Fardaws Aimaq at Haas Pavilion.
California won on the scoreboard, but lost at the pay window as they failed to cover the -9.0-point spread.
California got 15 points from Jalen Cone and another 13 points from Jaylon Tyson. Jalen Cone contributed 5 assists, while Fardaws Aimaq cleaned the glass with 10 rebounds.
UC San Diego got 20 points from Tyler McGhie in a losing cause and another 14 points from Bryce Pope. Hayden Gray contributed 5 assists for them, while Emmanuel Tshimanga had 9 rebounds.
California was winning at the break before taking care of business in the second half.
UC San Diego had a 37-27 advantage in the rebounding department as they won the battle in the paint.
