Tar Heels Down Appalachian State 40-34 - Match Report

Omarion Hampton scampered through the Appalachian State defense for 234 yards as North Carolina handed the Mountaineers a 40-34 defeat on Saturday at Kenan Memorial Stadium.

North Carolina did not, however, defeat the Mountaineers against the spread, which closed at -18.5 at most sportsbooks. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go OVER the closing number of 58.0.

Omarion Hampton rushed for 234 yards, while Drake Maye added 57 yards in the win. J.J. Jones and Kobe Paysour added 91 and 73 receiving yards respectively.

Nate Noel rushed for 127 yards for Appalachian State, while Maquel Haywood added 42 yards. Joey Aguilar threw for 275 yards for the Mountaineers, while receivers Dashaun Davis and Dalton Stroman had 117 and 34 yards respectively.

Appalachian State lost the offensive yardage battle to North Carolina 527-494 yards in Saturday's game. Appalachian State had more first downs as that total ended up 30-27.

North Carolina lost the time of possession battle 33:39-26:21, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.

North Carolina heads into a Week 3 battle against Minnesota. Appalachian State, meanwhile, will have their next action against East Carolina.
