Recap - Owls Defeat Houston 43-41
JT Daniels sliced and diced the Cougars defense for 401 yards as Rice handed Houston a 43-41 defeat on Saturday at Rice Stadium.
Rice won and also put money in the pockets of their supporters by covering the +7.0-point spread as underdogs. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go OVER the closing number of 51.0.
JT Daniels completed 28 of 42 pass attempts for 401 yards for the Owls in the win.
Tony Mathis Jr. rushed for 60 yards for Houston, while Donovan Smith added 57 yards. Donovan Smith threw for 260 yards for the Cougars, while receivers Samuel Brown and Matthew Golden had 138 and 60 yards respectively.
Rice outgained Houston 470-443 yards in the game, while the battle of first downs was won 27-25 by the Cougars.
Houston lost the time of possession battle 31:50-26:55, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.
Rice heads into a Week 3 battle against Texas Southern. Houston, meanwhile, will have their next action against TCU.
