Memphis Falls 38-34 to Mustangs - Recap
SMU got a 115-yard performance from LJ Johnson Jr. as a key part of its 38-34 victory over the Tigers on Saturday at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
SMU won on the scoreboard, but lost at the pay window as they failed to cover the -10.0-point spread. The game went OVER the consensus closing total of 64.0.
LJ Johnson Jr. rushed for 115 yards, while Camar Wheaton added 51 yards in the win. Key'Shawn Smith and Romello Brinson added 63 and 56 receiving yards respectively.
Blake Watson rushed for 41 yards for Memphis, while Seth Henigan added 13 yards. Seth Henigan threw for 402 yards for the Tigers, while receivers Roc Taylor and Demeer Blankumsee had 146 and 114 yards respectively.
SMU was outgained by Memphis 464-444 yards in Saturday's match, while the important battle of first downs was won 24-23 by the Tigers.
Memphis led the time of possession tally, as the game finished as a 31:50-28:10 split in that important category.
Next game, SMU takes its act home to face Navy looking for another win. For Memphis, they head on the road to face Temple.
