Christian May scored 24 points leading Towson to a 89-73 victory over UMBC at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on Saturday.
Towson got 16 points from Tomiwa Sulaiman and another 14 points from Tyler Tejada. Dylan Williamson contributed 8 assists, while Charles Thompson cleaned the glass with 8 rebounds.
UMBC got a 16-point performance from Franck Emmou, who was supported by 14 points from Khydarius Smith. Anthony Valentine had 9 assists in a losing cause for UMBC, while Khydarius Smith grabbed 5 rebounds.
First-half bettors who backed Towson were victorious, as the score was 46-39 at the break.
Towson won the battle of the boards, outrebounding their counterparts 37-18.
Next game, Towson takes its act on the road to face Bryant looking for another win. For UMBC, they head on the road to face Saint Peter's.
