Navy Midshipmen vs SMU Mustangs Wrap - SMU Wins 40-34
Tanner Mordecai led the way with 336 passing yards on Friday as the Mustangs picked up a 40-34 victory over the Midshipmen at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
SMU did not, however, defeat the Midshipmen against the spread, which closed at -12.0 at most sportsbooks. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go OVER the closing number of 59.5.
Tanner Mordecai completed 20 of 27 pass attempts for 336 yards for the Mustangs in the win.
Tai Lavatai rushed for 120 yards for Navy, while Maquel Haywood added 95 yards. Tai Lavatai threw for 138 yards for the Midshipmen, while receivers Jayden Umbarger and Mark Walker had 59 and 34 yards respectively.
Navy outgained SMU 510-441 yards in the game, while the battle of first downs was won 32-16 by the Midshipmen.
The time of possession battle favored Navy as their offense was on the field for 40:42, longer than the 19:18 of their opponents.
Next game, SMU takes its act home to face Cincinnati looking for another win. For Navy, they head home to face Houston.
