UTEP Miners vs Rice Owls Wrap - Rice Wins 37-30
Rice's aerial attack produced 334 yards and the Owls produced a 37-30 victory over UTEP on Thursday at Rice Stadium.
Bettors who backed the Owls were also rewarded, as they covered the closing number as a favorite of -3.5 at sportsbooks. Over-Under bettors saw the total score go OVER the closing total of 47.0.
TJ McMahon completed 21 of 31 pass attempts for 334 yards for the Owls in the win.
Calvin Brownholtz rushed for 64 yards for UTEP, while Deion Hankins added 42 yards. Gavin Hardison threw for 103 yards for the Miners, while receivers Tyrin Smith and Trent Thompson had 79 and 48 yards respectively.
UTEP lost the offensive yardage battle to Rice 502-313 yards in Thursday's game. Rice had more first downs as that total ended up 21-15.
The time of possession battle favored UTEP as their offense was on the field for 31:21, longer than the 28:39 of their opponents.
Next game, Rice takes its act on the road to face WKU looking for another win. For UTEP, they head home to face FIU.
